How do you turn subtitles on and off on Apple TV?

How do I stop picture-in-picture playback on Apple TV?
 

Live TV on Apple TV supports Picture-in-Picture playback, meaning you can continue watching your program while, for example, checking something in another app.

If you have switched from Live TV back to the Home screen, you can end Picture-in-Picture playback on Apple TV as follows:

  • Press the Apple TV App/Home button on the Siri Remote to display the Picture-in-Picture options menu
  • Swipe on the touch surface to switch between the options
  • Select "Close" ("X") to end Live TV

This function can also be completely disabled:

  • Press the Menu/Back button in Live TV to display the menu bar
  • Select Settings
  • Disable the 'Automatically enable Picture-in-Picture' option
Can you customize the TV Wall yourself in Live TV for Apple TV?
 
It is not possible to configure the TV Wall according to your own channels under Apple TV. However, you can switch between different configurations, e.g. Top 4, Top 9 or News. To do this, swipe down in the "TV Wall" section on the Apple Remote to select a configuration.
I never find my favorite channels, can I define a custom order?
 
Yes, you can sort the channels you watch frequently in a custom order without having to search for them for a long time: Go to Settings in the menu and then to Channel Selection. Here you can determine a custom order for your channels by selecting the channels and moving them up or down. You can then find your new custom channel list in the main menu under "List".
How can I change the TV Wall?
 
To switch to a different TV Wall, tap or swipe down on the Apple TV Remote until the TV Wall menu appears at the bottom of the screen. Swipe left or right to navigate to a different TV Wall. Now click once to display the Wall. If you want to hide the TV Wall menu again, swipe up once. Now you can again normally switch on the sound of one of the four streams by swiping left, right, up or down.

"TV Pro Gold" applies to the "TV Pro" program guide apps for iPhone/iPad. There are separate in-app packages for the "Live TV" and "TV Pro Mediathek" apps, which can be purchased within the apps. "TV Pro Gold" does not unlock any features there.
Help! After updating to the latest tvOS version, Apple has installed an "Apple TV" app that will now start whenever I press the Home button. How do I turn it off?
 
Unfortunately, Apple has changed the behavior of all Apple TVs with a software update. If you now press the Home button of the Siri Remote, then the "Apple TV" app starts instead of returning to the home screen. You can argue about the benefits of the "Apple TV" app for a long time. The easiest way is to change the home button back to the old behavior. My purchased subscription is not recognized. What can I do?
 

1. Check in which app the purchase was made

Please check in the first step in which app and on which platform you purchased the package. You can find the name of the app on the purchase receipt. Alternatively, you can also check in which app you purchased it by looking in the App Store settings under:
App Store > Highlights > at the very bottom on "Apple ID: xxx" > Show Apple ID > Subscriptions
A package should be selected and active here.

2. Open app and transfer product status to TV Pro ID

Please open the app in which you purchased the package in the next step.
  • Please perform the following steps:
    • 1. Open app
    • 2. Open the store in the menu
    • 3. Log in with your TV Pro ID or if you do not have a TV Pro ID yet, create a new TV Pro ID (free)
    • 4. Tap "Restore Purchases"
    Now your package has been saved in your TV Pro ID

    3. Restore package on another device or in another app

    To transfer your package to your second device or to another version, please follow these steps:
    • Open the corresponding app on the target device
    • As described above, go to the Store settings and log in here with your TV Pro ID
    • Tap "Restore Purchases"
    • Now your package should also appear here

Is a channel permanently in the channel list of Live TV?
 
The Live TV channel list consists of public web streams from broadcasters and providers. We link to these contents. If a broadcaster or provider changes or stops the offer, the offer from Live TV may no longer be accessible and viewable. We therefore cannot guarantee availability. We actively maintain the content, often link information is changed or restructured and can be displayed again after adjustment.

In Live TV and TV Pro I can jump to programs in the media library. Do I then not need the TV Pro media library app?
 
In Live TV and TV Pro, the integration only serves to conveniently access Mediathek programs. This allows you to jump directly to the corresponding program in the TV Pro Mediathek App. You watch the program in the TV Pro Mediathek App and that is also where you find the overview by topic, the search, your favorites and downloads. If you delete the TV Pro Mediathek App, associated data such as downloads will also be deleted. Favorites are retained if you are logged in with your equinux ID. Tip: All three apps are cheaper together and available on all platforms if you opt for TV Pro Gold All-in-1.
How does Live TV determine the ratings of programs?
 
The tuning rate is determined in real time from all installed Live TV Apps and TV Pro Apps on all platforms. With the channel order sorted by rating in Live TV, you can quickly see when a channel is broadcasting a currently very popular program: it moves to the top as a top channel.
How can I create a TV Pro ID?

I can no longer log in to the TV Pro or Live TV App. What can I do?
 
If you can no longer log in to the TV Pro or Live TV app and do not receive an email to reset your password, the following may be the cause: No account with this email address - Password reset only works if an account actually exists with the entered email address. - Check if you may have registered with a different email address. Check old emails - Search your email inbox for previous emails from @equinux.com. - If you find such emails, your account was probably created with this email address. - Try logging in with this address or performing the password reset for this email address. If no emails are found - If you do not find any emails from @equinux.com, you probably have not yet created an account. - In this case, you can simply create a new account with your current email address.

I purchased a license – how do I get my access back?

If you have already made a purchase, but no account exists with your current email address, you can restore your purchases in the app: Create a new account - If you did not have an account before, create a new account in your TV Pro or Live TV app. Restore purchases - Open the app and navigate to the settings. - Select the “Restore Purchases” option. - Important: This must be done with the Apple ID with which you originally made the purchase. Use the correct app - Make sure you are using the correct version of the app. For example, if you made your purchase via the TV Pro Mediathek iOS app, you must use exactly this app to restore it. Check purchases in Apple ID - If you are unsure with which Apple ID you made the purchase, you can check this in the App Store under: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions. - Alternatively, you can check under Purchases in the App Store which apps are linked to your Apple ID.

What to do if the restoration does not work?

Many TV Streaming Apps show Preroll Ads, meaning an advertisement sometimes plays first when changing channels. That bothers me.
 
We are also annoyed by this. Watching television and channel surfing and then having to watch a 20-second preroll ad: that’s a no-go. That's why we don't use any preroll ads in the TV Pro Live TV App!
I purchased a subscription to Live TV. However, few channels are still appearing, and the subscription was not recognized. What can I do?
 
If, after purchasing a subscription in Live TV, few channels are still displayed, the purchase has been completed, but the evaluation of the purchase has failed. This is not a cause for concern. The following steps can resolve this issue:
  • Delete the Live TV app from the device. (Don't forget to empty the trash on Mac)
  • Open the AppStore and download the Live TV app again from the AppStore
Then start Live TV. All channels should now appear.

Some (few) channels send a stream with subtitles in addition to the normal stream. To find these channels, simply enter the search term "Subtitles" in the search field at the beginning of the channel list. Tap or click on the corresponding channel. In the stream window, then select the corresponding stream of the channel. To connect your iPhone or iPad to your Airplay 2-enabled Smart TV, you only need to follow these simple steps: 1. Make sure your iOS device and your Smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi 2. When purchasing the TV Pro GOLD ALL-IN-1 package, the following rule applies: always start with the app and on the device where you purchased the package. Then log in to other apps. For example, if you purchased the TV Pro GOLD ALL-IN-1 package in the TV Pro app on your iPad, then the starting point is the TV Pro app on your iPad:
‣ Create a TV Pro ID in the app and then select "Restore Purchases"
‣ Now open the other apps in the TV Pro GOLD ALL-IN-1 package and enter the same TV Pro ID there.
‣ Logging in with your TV Pro ID will automatically recognize the TV Pro GOLD ALL-IN-1 package.
If you have problems, please delete the app from all devices and start with the device where you initially purchased the TV Pro GOLD ALL-IN-1 package. Then follow the steps above.
Does my app subscription renew automatically?

How do I select a regional window or another stream for a channel in Live TV?
 
Below the image there is a drop-down menu. Here it is possible to switch to another stream or regional window of the respective channel. FAQ Image - S_1255.png On Apple TV, you can switch to this menu by swiping right and then down on the Apple Remote.
Login failed - certificate expired
 

Recently, root certificates for "Let's Encrypt" expired. Apple has decided not to update root certificates for OS X versions older than macOS 10.12. This means that when apps or Safari on your Mac access websites using Let's Encrypt root certificates, they will not load correctly.

This can also cause problems when logging in to the app.

How to fix this issue
  1. Open Safari, go to https://equinux.github.io and download the fix

  2. Open the profile in System Preferences and choose "Install"

  3. Re-launch the app and sign in again
How to close and restart an app on Apple TV?
 
1. On your Apple TV remote, press the TV icon button twice quickly. This will take you to the app switcher. 2.
