If you need internet on your Mac while traveling, you can activate the personal hotspot feature on your iPhone or Android smartphone in order to share a 4G/LTE/5G mobile connection with your Mac. In general, this will work fine for the majority of VPN connections. However, there are a few points to be aware of:
  • PPTP VPN connections are not supported, as iOS and Android do not support PPTP passthrough
  • For IPsec VPN connections, it's possible you may have to adjust your settings for NAT-T.
